I discovered wild tulips for the first time in a friends garden growing en masse in the shade of a large tree. I loved their elegant simplicity and they were a perfect floral subject to paint. They are often called woodland tulips and are endemic to Eurasia and North Africa. This painting is professionally framed in Tasmanian oak.
