This artwork is part of a series Marijke is working on as a tribute as well as a fund raising project for those people suffering from the devastating consequences of war—displaced, silenced, and scarred by injustice. It speaks to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of violence and loss and the power of love. The heart is there, must be there for everyone —beating, hoping, caring—for justice, peace, and love. No silence in the arts! No blind starvation, every drop in the ocean counts! Through layers of texture, text and colour, this work seeks to hold space for grief while offering a vision of hope and healing. It reminds us that behind every story of struggle lies an unbreakable spirit and a longing for dignity and belonging. Amid darkness, the heart endures—calling for compassion, unity, solidarity and a world where all can belong. We are stronger together.
