The Royal Exhibition Building is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed building in Melbourne, built in 1879–1880 as part of the international exhibition movement, which presented over 50 exhibitions between 1851 and 1915 around the globe. The painting is another in my Melbourne Icons series and as my daughter's favourite Melbourne building, formed the basis of my design for her wedding invitation in 2025. Using an aerial shot provided by my son in law, I simplified and abstracted the surrounding buildings and gardens and chose a salmon pink background rather than a conventional blue or grey.
