This painting depicts part of Richard Stringer's sculpture of giant golden bees on a side of the residential Eureka Tower, on Melbourne's Southbank. A metaphor for a hive of frenetic activity and high-density city living, its golden colour reflects the golden glass apex of the building. I was drawn to the surrealistic aspect of this organic sculpture against the background of the geometric architecture. The painting is another in my Melbourne Icons series.
