I've always been drawn to Moreton Bay Fig Trees, dating back to my days as a student when our school had a magnificent one at its entrance.
The inspiration for this painting is the Camperdown Cemetery in the back of Newtown. It is one of the oldest cemeteries in Sydney and it has a wonderful Moreton Bay Fig at the front gates. The tree dates back to 1848, as does the cemetery. The small building behind the tree is the sexton's lodge - a small cottage with three rooms and an attic.
The painting is in a floating frame and is ready to hang
