The shifting moods of the clouds are reflected in the colours of the distant hills, the valley, and the trees, creating a sense of intimacy within a vast, open space. This interplay between closeness and emptiness invites the viewer into a quiet, contemplative state, where the landscape feels both present and distant at the same time.
The expansive landscape of Canberra inspired this work. Its wide horizons and subtle atmospheric changes informed my approach to a realism-based acrylic painting. I chose acrylic for its ability to layer and adjust colour, allowing me to capture the changing light and tonal relationships across the scene. The realistic style helps ground the viewer in a recognisable environment, while the focus on mood and colour aims to evoke an emotional, almost meditative response.
