As with many of my recent paintings I am inspired by the landscape in the South West of WA.and much of my story telling and mystery is depicted in these works. What begins with a idea and inspiration, evolves and culminates into something spontaneous and unexpected. This painting is based on the fragmented connection and conflict between human beings and their natural habitat. As an artist I have reached a point in my career where I feel that I have a responsibility and need to express a loss of connection and empathy with our natural environment. If as artists we contribute to bringing about awareness of our plight, no matter the genre or in which medium we choose to express our thoughts and ideas in, it is a step to re awake that sense of affinity, connection and beauty in nature. Unless we humans understand how important our deep rooted connectedness with nature is, and are prepared to protect it, we will ultimately loose that sense of self and caring for one another.
The curator of South West Art Now held at Bunbury Regional Art Gallery best describes my painting as "Her paintings express an affinity and connection with nature, encouraging a sense of responsibility, and awareness of the plight of our environment. They also play the role of an inventory or document about the state of the land, capturing the chaos and complexity of the earths dynamic systems."
