Labyrinth on black is a mixed media abstract monoprint on paper exploring the interplay of structure and fluidity. A network of angular, cell-like forms drifts across a richly layered background. Yellow forms, edged in white, intersect and expand across the surface, creating a sense of organic fragmentation evoking pathways or cells. The white outlines act as both boundary and illumination, giving each form a subtle lift from the surface while maintaining their interconnectedness.
Beneath this linear framework, the background is dark, being layers of blue and yellow moving almost to black, evoking transformation and movement. The work is suggestive – is it a landscape seen from above, mineral veins or light filtering through water?
The beautiful tactile qualities of monoprints remain visible throughout: variations in ink density, grain and irregular edges reinforce the work’s balance between intention and chance. The composition invites the eye to wander through its fractured geometry and to find rhythm in its asymmetry. It is a dialogue between containment and flow, structured yet evolving, where boundaries are continuously negotiated and the surface becomes a space of subtle transformation.
This work is unique - a gel plate print on paper, with hand drawn pen highlights. It is presented in a square white mat. It fits a 20 x 20 cm picture frame.
