Flickering Life by Lumière

In this work, I explore the quiet resilience of the Australian landscape in the aftermath of fire. My broader practice is grounded in noticing the beauty in everyday moments, often in places others might overlook, and this piece continues that exploration. By combining painting with a sculptural charred timber element, I reflect the tension between destruction and renewal. Layers of metallic ground and atmospheric mark-making evoke shifting light and lingering heat, while subtle traces of regrowth emerge within the composition. A small, hidden possum rests beneath the log, offering a quiet focal point—an intimate reminder of life persisting within a changed environment. I invite the viewer to slow down and look more closely, revealing a landscape not defined by loss, but by its capacity to endure and regenerate.
