"EPOCH"

"An immense period of time that i simply cannot comprehend.  Personal epochs are also a feature of the individual as they take stock of their brief encounter with a particular period of time on earth.  Whilst the footprints in the sand are many and varied, they will soon be effaced entirely with the next incoming tide, wiping the sands clean of any vestige of humanity.  The eternal ocean.  The brevity and the environmental significance, yet insignificance of humanity."

MATERIALS:  Custom hand dyed Australian Merino wool, hand dyed Wensleydale locks, hand made felt, hand dyed cotton scrim, viscose, freeform thread and bead embroidery, silk throwster's waste, wool nepps, mounted on black painted and sealed canvas with D rings for ease of handing.  Dyes used are activated by acid (vinegar) and are archival quality, colour fast.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:  This work has been treated with UV fabric protectant.  Do not hang this work in a bright or sunny room.  Do not hang this work in a damp environment.  To clean, simply spray with canned air in short bursts to remove any surface dust.  A gentle flick with a feather duster on occasion will assist to keep this work dust free if you do not have canned air.  Do not handle the felt work itself.  My felt paintings have lasted for years using these siting and maintenance methods.

ABOUT FELT:  The oldest textile medium known to humanity; predating weaving.  Custom dyed Australian Merino wool I hand dye each summer.  I hand felt using approximately 1,200 hand rollings; making for very laborious work.  Lined and then embellished with freeform hand embroidery using quality imported embroidery threads and fine beadwork.
