The heritage of the city of Darwin and its environs. This painting depicts the landscape and harbour in 1952 after the clearing of the old Post Office and Telegraph site following World War 11 and includes Fort Hill before it was removed to install the iron ore loading facility. The painting also includes Fort Hill Wharf and Government House. The building in the left foreground is the partially restored building which in 1956 became the Chamber and Offices of the Legislative Council. The building was partly completed as an extension to the Post Office building and was severely damaged by the Japanese bombing raid in February 1942. The painting also shows part of Liberty Square adjacent to Government House.
The panting is part of the Disappearing Darwin Series. It would suite a collector who is interested in the history of the Northern Territory. This painting has been behind glass since it was painted.
The frame is a bit darker and wider than the one depicted in the photos.
This painting will be professionally packed.
