This painting feels like a natural progression from my umbrella series. Those works weren't dark by any means however they were created at a time when i was quietly seeking a bit of protection and steadiness. This new piece is bright, fun, and carries a sense of release - as if the sting of the past is fading a little. My son described it beautifully: 'It's like a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis'
