The bird of paradise can be found in several different variations throughout the mainland of Papua New Guinea. It is an emblem of regional tribal culture and represents the emergence of Papua New Guinea as a new nation. I was fortunate to live in Papua New Guinea for 10 years, hence my fascination with the country and its people, and wildlife. This painting is part of a set of two depictions of the beautiful bird of paradise, each complementing the other. The two would look well together on the same wall.
