Between Light and Flight

180 × 180 cm
Acrylic on Canvas | Diptych

Between Light and Flight explores the delicate space where opposites meet — light and shadow, stillness and movement, grounding and freedom.

A luminous full moon rises through a blush-pink sky, representing clarity, intuition and illumination. Across the sky, contrasting flocks of white cockatoos and dark bats sweep through the composition, symbolising movement, transition and the different energies that exist within us.

Rather than existing in opposition, these contrasting forces coexist in harmony. The cockatoos and bats move freely through the same luminous sky, creating a sense of balance between radiance and shadow, flight and stillness.

Below, a winding river becomes the quiet connector between the two canvases. Flowing through lush botanical foliage, exotic blooms and delicate water lilies, it brings a sense of calm and continuity to the scene — a reminder that even amidst change and movement, there can be a steady current guiding us forward.

This work captures a suspended moment: not quite earthbound, not yet airborne — an in-between space where transformation, possibility and freedom can unfold.

As a large-scale diptych, Between Light and Flight immerses the viewer in a vivid, dreamlike landscape. Rich colour, intricate botanical detail and the dynamic movement of birds create a striking contrast with the peaceful stillness of the water below.

The work invites contemplation of the spaces between opposites — between shadow and illumination, movement and serenity, grounding and freedom — and the possibility of finding harmony within them.
