In my self-portrait, Besieged, time has relentlessly stripped away youth, optimism and confidence. It considers how ordinary life sustains an illusion of agency, and how fear and existential awareness can rupture that calm. It acknowledges the solitude of this knowledge; no one can intervene in what is finally endured alone.
