South Australia's wool industry started in 1836. The industry boomed by 1870, resulting in it being necessary to build large-scale warehouses at the Port. Some of these buildings were ornate, beautiful pieces of architecture. The image is a close, slightly skewed view of a classical, ornate storefront rendered almost entirely in cool greys against a warm, coral sky. I wanted the scene to feel nostalgic and dignified. An old commercial building celebrated for its craft, set against a flat, saturated background that both isolates and elevates the architectural detail.
The painting is signed on the bottom left side of the frame and the edges are painted black, so there is no need for a frame.
The actual colours may vary slightly.
