This painting feels like a meditation on light breaking through uncertainty. The expansive white passage dominates the composition, creating a sense of openness, silence, and possibility, while the energetic field of ochres, golds, and burnt oranges grounds the work in warmth and movement. Sweeping gestures and thick layers of paint suggest a landscape both remembered and imagined, where memory, emotion, and place become intertwined.
Artist Statement
Solana explores the meeting place between stillness and vitality. Broad passages of luminous white create space for reflection, while bold strokes of golden ochre and warm earth tones emerge like a landscape illuminated by the first light of day. The painting balances restraint and energy, allowing moments of quiet to coexist with raw, expressive mark-making.
Working intuitively with layers of texture and gesture, I sought to capture the feeling of hope rising through uncertainty. The sweeping movements of paint suggest pathways, horizons, and shifting terrain, inviting viewers to find their own connections to place, memory, and belonging. Flecks of blue introduce a sense of calm and renewal, while the rich golds speak to resilience, warmth, and the beauty that can emerge after seasons of challenge.
Rather than depicting a specific landscape, Solana is an emotional landscape. It reflects the experience of moving toward light, holding space for both fragility and strength. The work celebrates the quiet optimism found in new beginnings and the enduring human capacity to find beauty, clarity, and connection amid life's complexity.
