Selene

In Greek mythology, Selene is the Goddess of the moon. She has the power to give sleep and to light the night, she has control over time, and like the moon itself, she is ever changing. I intentionally exaggerated the size to create a sense of awe. The lighthouse is both a protector and a small witness to something vast and ancient. I wanted the piece to feel meditative and a little melancholy. The enormity of the moon suggests memory or longing, the lighthouse implies watchfulness and perseverance. The colour contrast between the moon and the night sky was my way of balancing longing with calm, and drama with quiet.
The edges are painted, so no frame is required.
