Pipeline

In this work I am inspired by the pipeline built from Perth to Kalgoorlie through terrain that is natural, desolate, rich in colour and fauna.  As the pipeline makes its way across the landscape taking us on a journey of discovery one wonders what beauty lies beneath. There’s almost an irony in that mining has transformed area’s of the landscape revealing the beauty within the layers of the earth and the rich colours that would otherwise be hidden from us. My paintings often begin with an aerial view of a landscape that I’m familiar with and use as a reference for the subject. By loosely placing colours, shapes and lines a narrative begins to appear. From there it becomes a spontaneous reaction allowing the work to take me in an undetermined direction.
