Bunya Catkins is part of a series of still life I painted as I packed up a home of 14 years. I made 21 paintings which became a respite from the inevitable stress. I also saw the series as a way to farewell a family home we had built and the gardens we had nurtured from scratch.
The series features vessels I rediscovered as I they were extratracted from cupboards and bubble wrapped. The flora was collected from our garden or the surrounding bush.
I work in acrylic on hand constructed ply cradled panels. The work is sealed with 3 coats of gloss medium, then waxed for a soft satin finish
The work is framed in Meranti, which is a hardwood. The frames are custom-made, then hand-sanded and waxed. D rings and wire are attached to the back, and the piece is ready to hang.
