The Kookaburra carries a sense of familiarity that feels like the heart of home. Although this famous Australian bird has been painted many times, and will surely inspire many more artists in the future, my own fascination with them remains as strong as ever.

Encountering one resting on a branch or hearing that legendary laugh ring through the bush always feels like catching up with an old friend. For me, they truly capture the essence of our natural landscape. Every time I begin a new painting of them, I find a fresh detail to appreciate in their personality and quiet strength. This piece is a simple celebration of a bird that remains a constant favourite for so many of us.
