White roses emerge softly from a dreamlike haze of white and golden-yellow flowers, surrounded by the depth of a green background. Light gently touches the petals, revealing tender shadows and glowing highlights. Through translucent layers of watercolour, the flowers seem to hold a quiet longing—a fleeting moment of beauty, tenderness and vulnerability, suspended between light and shadow.
Cecilia Xiao is a self-taught watercolour artist whose distinctive style has evolved through years of practice and exploration. Inspired by the delicate beauty of flowers, she uses translucent layers, fluid brushstrokes and vibrant colour to capture their softness, detail and fleeting nature. Cecilia is fascinated by the unpredictable flow of watercolour and the beautiful “accidents” created when colours blend. For her, painting is a form of freedom and expression. Her work has been selected multiple times for the Australian Watercolour Muster and FabrianoInAcquarello, Italy. Recent achievements include Finalist in the Watercolour Golden Brush Competition, France (2025) and Highly Commended and People’s Choice Award at the Watercolour Society of Queensland Annual Exhibition (2026).
