The Golden Endangered Flora Sphere is part of my ongoing exploration of Australia’s remarkable flora and the growing threat posed by climate change.
Wheel-thrown and hand-illustrated, the 30 cm ceramic sphere features rare and endangered Australian flowers and plants rendered in underglaze against a lustrous gold background. The gold celebrates the beauty and individuality of these species while also suggesting their fragility and preciousness.
The unglazed black clay lid is finished with a piece of found, blackened wood. Resembling a dead branch, it introduces a darker element to the work—a visual reminder of habitat loss, environmental change and the uncertain future facing our natural world.
The work brings together beauty and unease: a celebration of what we have, alongside a reminder of what may be lost.
