My painting captures the historic entrance of HM Pentridge Prison in Coburg, an inner northern suburb of Melbourne using my signature black line and bold colour. The bluestone walls are bright to life while magpies linger around the entrance, noisily observing the area as an ode to its heavy history that's known to many in Melbourne.
Today the old prison buildings stand tall and empty with haunting stories etched in the walls of those who were punished. It's now an iconic part of Melbourne's history, good and bad, for those who love criminal history.
Painting is to scale from a photo I took when I last visited Melbourne. Thankyou.
