Botanical Jewels on Blue

A botanical painting that began as an ink abstract. I enjoyed the process and allowed the content to evolve as I went along. As nature is so often a catalyst in much of my work, it was no surprise that this abstract lead me to birds, perched on tree branches, with beautiful jewel-like foliage, against the backdrop of an Australian blue sky. To bring the colours of the great outdoors inside, I used a combination of transparent coloured glazes, opaque and iridescent paints on a very heavy bodied watercolour paper. This piece will require framing.
