Birthday Cake could be two gifts as one. It is very simple and whimsical: s chocolate cake decorated with candles, and the candle flames are lustred in gold. It is the cake you can have without eating it! My idea for this style of cake was to have the body be the wrapping for a gift hidden inside, but it can also be a simple and decorative sculptural piece or secret hiding place for something precious.
Under the chocolate glaze is an ironstone clay. The plate is made from a white clay, as are the candles. They are fired to stoneware, and then a second firing for the lustre. It is real gold! The plate is simply painted in red and white underglaze and glazed clear.
