La Perouse is one of my favorite places for plein air painting, where every visit reveals a different mood of the coastline. On this occasion, I witnessed a remarkable moment just before a thunderstorm. The afternoon sun broke through layers of fast-moving clouds, casting radiant beams across the landscape and illuminating Bare Island Bridge in the distance. The glowing ochre hillside contrasted vividly with the deep blue sea, while the darkening sky hinted at the storm’s imminent arrival. Through expressive brushwork and rich, textured color, I sought to capture the fleeting drama, grandeur, and quiet anticipation of nature at its most powerful.
