Be Calmed

Be Calmed is inspired by the view from Rottnest Island, looking back towards the distant city of Perth. Rottnest holds a unique magic — the moment you step off the ferry, the weight of the city lifts. Though Perth is just across the water, it feels a world away. In this painting, I’ve sought to express that feeling of distance, stillness, and clarity. The colours reflect the island’s striking palette — the sea shifting between turquoise and deep blue, and the golden glow of limestone rocks.

The abstract forms and layered media aim to capture the essence of place: calm, expansive, and quietly joyful. Created with acrylic, collage, and mixed media, Be Calmed is both a memory and an invitation to pause, exhale, and reconnect with the coastal beauty that is so deeply woven into the hearts of West Australians.
