Ayla

Ayla is a celebration of light, vitality, and the quiet strength found in embracing joy. Through vibrant layers of magenta, coral, orange, blush pink, and soft aqua, the painting captures the energy of a life lived openly and authentically. The composition moves between bold saturation and moments of calm, creating a visual rhythm that reflects the balance between passion and peace.

Built through an intuitive process of layering, scraping, and gestural mark-making, the work reveals traces of its own evolution. Areas of luminous colour emerge and recede, suggesting memories, relationships, and experiences that shape our identities over time. The interplay between vibrant and muted passages speaks to the complexity of being human, where moments of confidence, vulnerability, celebration, and reflection coexist.

The name Ayla, meaning "moonlight" or "halo of light" in various cultures, inspired the painting's exploration of illumination both seen and felt. Light becomes a metaphor for hope, resilience, and the enduring beauty that can be found even through periods of uncertainty. The bright fields of colour appear to glow from within, creating a sense of warmth, optimism, and possibility.

Rather than representing a specific place or narrative, Ayla invites viewers into an emotional landscape. It is a reflection on growth, connection, and the courage to bring one's true self into the world. Through colour and gesture, the work celebrates the moments that awaken us to beauty, reminding us that light often arrives not all at once, but in vibrant fragments that gradually transform our view of ourselves and the world around us.
