Assemblage Number 10: Smooth Seas do not make Skilled Sailors explores the ocean as the intense being it can be. This is part of the ocean study of structure, rhythm, and transformation. The metaphor represents the ocean and life and when we are met with obstacles we learn and acquire more skills to assist in life. This segmented collage brings together diverse materials and textures to mirror both the shifting character of the sea and the multifaceted nature of human experience. Each section reflects a moment in time, the changing hue of water and the tactile energy of waves in motion.

Through its layered composition, the work evokes the complexity of the ocean’s rhythm, a reminder to embrace one of life’s guarantees. Change is inevitable.
