A stag is one of the larger species of deer. During my last weeks in Ireland, I visited the National Museum of Ireland which has examples of the now extinct Irish Elk. It was known for its enormous antlers. While the elk of today is not as impressive of its extinct forebear, it is still a spectacular animal.
