Jane's painting Sleeping Beauty is inspired by fairytales of the Brothers Grimm and other authors. Sleeping Beauty is cursed by an evil fairy at birth, but one of the good fairies intervenes, ensuring she will sleep rather than die. When she reaches puberty she pricks her finger and falls into a 100 year sleep - but eventually a prince wakes her with a kiss. The fairytale symbolises the transition from innocence to womanhood, and the power of fate and true love.
