This painting was inspired by a photograph I captured of an emu caught mid-display, puffed up in an unmistakably aggressive stance. I was immediately drawn to his strong, almost comical personality, he seemed to demand attention and practically begged to be painted. I wanted to capture both the humour and the intensity of his character, bringing to life his bright, beady eyes against the soft, earthy orange-toned background.
