"Australian Natives" is a botanical piece, slightly abstract and slightly expressive. I wanted to paint Australian native flowers and plants but not in a typical botanical art style - I wanted it to messy, busy an even a little 'scratchy'. What I mean by scratchy is wild, abstract marks and lines painted in a rushed style which is what I've done with the burnt umber marks.
I wanted it wild and abstract because if you ever stand in an Australian bush surrounded by native plants it can feel that way - wild and messy!
This painting is medium sized at approximately 36" x 24" or 92cm x 61cm and is unstretched, it would look great stretched and framed.
